The second annual Healthy Flint Research Symposium is set for March 15 at Riverfront Conference Center. Those attending also will have the opportunity to share their ideas on future research in Flint.

The words from renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma were both an invitation and a profound summary of a full day of music, inspiration, thoughtfulness, and togetherness he hosted as part of a Day of Action in Flint. “Let’s do something,” Ma said. Without skipping a beat, Flint’s Baba Kevin Collins suddenly found himself jamming with the Grammy winner.

“I am a messenger of the time period I live in,” Lavarne Ross explains in a new video created through a collaboration between  Flint Beat and Flintside as part of an exhibit in “Flint Voices: Culture, Community, and Resilience.”  

In a collaborative effort, Genesee Health System will be operating the Behavioral Health Emergency Center program supported by Hurley’s Emergency Department where they plan to address the needs of the entire community.

A pre-season game against Detroit City Football Club is set for May 4, a tournament with 12 Michigan teams May 11,  and the official season opener against West Virginia Alliance is May 18.

Yo-Yo Ma to perform, speak at free Flint event

The showcase is part of Ma’s Day of Action in Flint and will include food from Flint Farmers’ Market vendors, an interactive visual art project, live storytelling experiences, and hands-on art making. The event is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Berston Field House.

Yo-Yo Ma will participate alongside community partners, local artists, and activists in a Day of Action called “Flint Voices: Culture, Community, and Resilience.” With more than 30 Flint-based organizations and partners, the public event will be 4-6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Berston Field House.
