Trisha Marie talks new single ‘Bad Looks Good On Me’ and the future of her rising career
Local country artist Trisha Marie talks new single release “Bad Looks Good On Me” and the future of her rising career.

FLINT, Michigan — In her latest song, “Bad Looks Good On Me,” Trisha Marie puts her own spin on the classic country revenge anthem. She calls it “a breakup anthem about being done waiting up and done hearing excuses, and finding out that walking away looks good on you.”
Released Oct. 3, “Bad Looks Good On Me” fits right into the rest of Marie’s discography; the independent singer-songwriter took the usual country soul of anthems and blended it with just enough rock edge to make it stand out.
A Michigan native, Marie grew up in Davison, just outside of Flint. These days, she writes and produces all her songs at home in Portland, Michigan. This includes the past hit “Cowgirl Impulses,” which was played on 99.5 WYCD Detroit alongside Morgan Wallen and Luke Bryan. Raw early versions of the song went viral on TikTok, gaining more than 11 million views.
After her recent release, Flintside sat down with the six-time 2026 Josie Music Awards nominee to learn more about the Genesee County-raised artist.
Flintside: You write and produce all your music at home. As a mom, what does that look like for you?

T. Marie: “It definitely isn’t the traditional studio process, but I wouldn’t trade it. I love it…My kids get to watch me chase something I’ve dreamed about since I was young, and getting to include them in that makes it even more special. I want to show them you can do anything you put your mind to.”
Flintside: Did that process look any different with “Bad Looks Good On Me”?
T. Marie: “A little bit. I knew pretty quickly what I wanted this song to say. I wanted it to capture that feeling of coming out of a relationship and realizing that maybe all of the things you were made to feel bad about weren’t actually bad at all. I leaned into that while I was writing it – it needed to feel fun and confident while still coming from something very real.”
Flintside: Your sound blends country, pop, and rock, all into one. How did you reach that? Any specific influences?
T. Marie: “I don’t think I ever intentionally decided I was going to fit into one specific sound. Eventually all of those things just became part of me as an artist. Corey Kent is a big one for me. Ella Langley…Ronnie Radke…Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan [all inspired me]. I could name influences all day, but I don’t want to sound exactly like any of them. I want to take everything music has made me feel over the years and turn it into something that sounds like Trisha Marie.”
Flintside: Looking through your discography, your songs all seem very personal, relatable. They come from the heart. What inspired “Bad Looks Good On Me”?
T. Marie: “It came from being in a relationship where I constantly felt like who I was as a person wasn’t good enough. The ‘bad’ in the title isn’t about actually being bad…it’s about realizing that I was only ‘bad’ in the eyes of someone who didn’t love or appreciate me for who I was. I made it for everybody who’s ever been made to feel like they’re too much, not enough, or that they need to change themselves to deserve love. If being myself makes me the bad guy in somebody else’s story, then I guess bad looks pretty good on me!”

Flintside: You were nominated for 6 Josie Awards this year — what was that like? How did that feel, such a big accomplishment?
T. Marie: “It was honestly surreal… it felt like a dream! I watched artist after artist go up and thank their teams—their managers, publicists and labels—and I hadn’t really stopped to think [that] I don’t have those things yet. To be recognized alongside artists who already have that infrastructure behind them made me realize how far I’ve actually come. It made me really excited to find out what I can do.”
Flintside: What made you start putting the music you were writing out there?
T. Marie: “There was a point in my life where I was really down, and karaoke became almost an escape for me. I’d sing and constantly have people…coming up afterward asking if I sang professionally. I didn’t. But I kept hearing, ‘You should.’ Something in me basically just went, you know what, screw it! I went home, sat down, and got to work. And then people started listening. So I kept going.”
“Bad Looks Good On Me” is only the start of Trisha Marie’s up-and-coming career. She is currently working on an album titled Hot Mess Express, which will feature the single and other hits that capture the same confidence, heartbreak, bad decisions, humor, and chaos that define her writing style.
