FLINT, Michigan — Tapology will host a full day of Pop-Up Masterclasses, an alumni class, and a tap dance competition at the Flint Institute of Music on Saturday, October 24. The event brings together professional teaching artists, emerging performers, and the Flint dance community as Tapology marks its 25th anniversary season.

Classes will be offered at four levels: Beginner, Fundamentals, Intermediate, and Advanced. The teaching artists are Jason Janas, Kandee Hogan, Alexandria “Brinae Ali” Bradley, Sarah Savelli, Frances Bradley, and Takiyah Jackson.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., and classes begin at 9 a.m. An alumni class follows from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the tap dance competition runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Founded in Flint in 2001 by Alfred “Bruce” Bradley, Tapology has spent 25 years preserving and advancing tap dance as an indigenous Black American art form through performance, education, and community outreach.

The October classes support its commitment to artistic excellence and youth development by giving students direct access to seasoned performers and teachers, as well as the history of Black American tap.

The event also advances the organization’s strategic pillars of Legacy and Lineage, Youth Pathways and Access, and Flint as a Cultural Incubator.

Tapology’s fall programming also includes Visiting Schools Days on October 22 and 23.

“Our arts & culture coverage is made possible by support from the Flint Institute of Arts.”
