Xandr Brown is the editor emeritus of Flintside. She also served as project editor for Flintside's inaugural On the Ground series in the Civic Park neighborhood and is a lifelong resident of Genesee County. A graduate of Powers Catholic High School, she went on to the University of Rochester in New York state, where she earned a bachelor's degree with a dual major in English/Communications and History and minor in Environmental Humanities. Xandr especially loves photography and is also a classically trained pianist.

Remembering William Alexander: A guiding force for Civic Park, Flint youth, and his family

He was a renaissance man with fine taste, who took no concern in flash and glitz but carried a deep appreciation for one’s composition and experience. A longtime neighborhood activist and generous community supporter, William Alexander died May 11, 2019.

Civic Park Centennial Gospel Celebration to feature the best of local talent

The Civic Park Centennial Gospel Celebration will run 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Heritage and Harmony Festival Stage on Dayton Avenue. It is free and open to the public.

Flintside office hours set for St. Luke’s NEW Life Center

Office hours are an opportunity for people to come meet with Flintside staff, share story ideas, and shape the work of Flintside’s ongoing On the Ground project in Civic Park. Stop in from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center, 3115 Lawndale Ave in Flint.

At St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center, you will find women with dreams and the support needed to achieve them. Yolanda Hull, 49, dreams of becoming a seamstress, giving birth to her son, owning a Chevy Malibu, and continuing to have the strength to show up for herself day after day.

Featuring a theme of growth and renewal, a workshop with local residents provided the inspiration for the mural on the side of the water distribution trailer at Joy Tabernacle Church.
