FLINT, Michigan — What started as a way to kick off the summer with music and good vibes is now celebrating six years of culture, community, and creativity in Flint. The Beats x Beers Memorial Day Weekend ‘Beats x BBQ’ event returns Sunday, May 25, bringing its signature mix of food, live music, and fun to the parking lot of Tenacity Brewing (119 N Grand Traverse St).

Presented by South Flint Plaza Cannabis, this year’s Beats x BBQ promises a laid-back, backyard BBQ feel that’s familiar and fresh. The lineup features an all-Flint cast of DJs, including DJ Hype, DJ Paradise, DJ E Nyce, DJ KJ, and for the first time in years, founder Brandon Corder himself is getting back on the turntable.

“You can expect a good backyard BBQ vibe this year,” said Corder. “We got some of the best food vendors this year, a very diverse lineup. The music is coming from all Flint DJs, and I’m even stepping back into the DJ world this year.”

In addition to the music, the family-friendly day party will spotlight some of the area’s best food and dessert vendors, including Slice of Flint, 810 Smoke, Taste Budz, and Suggs Sweet Treat. The event will also feature a vendor marketplace showcasing local businesses, artists, and entrepreneurs.

The celebration runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., rain or shine, with general admission tickets going for $15 and free admission for kids under 12. There will also be an all-R&B afterparty held at Soothing Tunes (1408 Hemphill Rd) with music by DJ Hype and DJ Woo Beatz.

For Corder, who has made a name for himself by curating memorable events in Flint and beyond, the sixth year of Beats x Beers marks a major milestone.

“It feels amazing to be able to carry something on after seeing a lot of other events like these not make it this far,” he said. “It’s something that people look forward to, and I’m just happy that we can consistently bring a good time every single year.”

When asked what he’s most excited for, Corder didn’t hesitate: “This might be biased, but I’m looking forward to DJ’ing this year. Stepping back into that world after not DJ’ing in years will be fun. I’m looking forward to the food also. The food options are really amazing this year.”

The heart of Beats x Beers has always been about more than music. It’s about the experience, the city, and the people who make it all possible.

“I just like creating experiences and seeing people have a good time,” said Corder. “Bringing the right people together to create memories that will last a lifetime means a lot to me.”
