What stories need to be told about Flint’s Civic Park neighborhood?

Civic Park is the first neighborhood selected for a six-month intensive journalism project called On the Ground. A part of Flintside, this program is designed to serve as a launching pad for bringing more attention to Flint’s neighborhoods.
 

FLINT, Michigan — Flintside will host a second Editorial Advisory meeting to hear from residents about issues and stories they want told as part of weekly On the Ground coverage in the Civic Park neighborhood. 

The meeting is set for 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Joy Tabernacle Church. 

Most of the meeting with be focused on listening to residents, but it will also include information on a paid journalism fellowship available to residents and other information. Flintside Publisher Marjory Raymer, Project Editor Alexandria Brown, and Engagement Manager Anna Mansfield as well as numerous neighborhood partners will attend.

Civic Park neighborhood is one of several in Flint where a combination of forces — including the determination of residents, investments from local foundations, and community partners — are working together to push toward recovery. And, it just so happens, this year also marks the Civic Park neighborhood centennial.

She also served as project editor for Flintside's inaugural On the Ground series in the Civic Park neighborhood and is a lifelong resident of Genesee County. A graduate of Powers Catholic High School, she went on to the University of Rochester in New York state, where she earned a bachelor's degree with a dual major in English/Communications and History and minor in Environmental Humanities.
