GISD wins state energy efficiency award
LED parking lot lights were among the changes made to reduce energy usage — and cut costs.
Genesee Intermediate School District recently was awarded the Governor’s Energy Excellence Award, winning top honors for its work to increase energy efficiency.
“Our Board of Education and administration has been thoughtful in developing and implementing long-range facility plans that not only improve learning environments for our students, but also help the district conserve energy and reduce costs,” added Steve Tunnicliff, associate superintendent of the GISD.
Among the changes instituted by GISD and its employees in an effort to increase energy efficiency were installing LED parking lot lights and new roofing at several GISD buildings.
GISD edged out Holland Board of Public Works and Van Buren Intermediate School District to win the best public works project award. They received the award, which has been granted each of the past four years to organizations or individuals who have made an impact, last month in Grand Rapids.
Energy Manager of the Genesee County Energy Consortium, Jill Dilliberti noted the changes help improve energy efficiency and save money.
