FLINT, Michigan — Addressing the vital connection between mental and physical health, Hamilton Community Health Network is inviting the community to its free monthly behavioral health discussion series, Healthy Mind/Healthy Body. The first session of the year kicks off on Friday, March 21, at Hamilton’s North Pointe Clinic from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Led by Albert Ujkaj, MBA, LMSW, Hamilton’s Behavioral Health Director, the open-format discussions aim to shed light on how mental well-being influences physical health. Ujkaj emphasizes that symptoms such as chronic pain can sometimes be linked to conditions like stress, depression, grief, or substance use.

“The connection between mental and physical health is often direct,” Ujkaj explained. “Understanding your mental health can play a key role in improving your physical health.”

The monthly talks provide a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, open to all — whether they are Hamilton patients or not. Past attendees have found the discussions to be transformative.

“These conversations helped me manage some difficult circumstances a few months ago,” shared Michelle, a regular participant. “I truly believe that managing my mental health helped reduce my frequent headaches. I am excited to learn more and continue keeping my mental health a priority.”

This month’s discussion will focus on substance use disorder, covering its impact on mental health, available treatment options, harm reduction strategies, and ways to reduce stigma. Organizers emphasize that the session is valuable not just for those personally affected by substance use but for anyone interested in mental wellness.

The event will include light refreshments and giveaways, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP at Outreach@hamiltonchn.org
