Residents, community partners, and volunteers came together on Dayton Street in the Civic Park Centennial Pavilion on Tuesday for the Centennial Summer Kickoff Celebration with nostalgia, hopes, and anticipation of budding changes for Civic Park.

Environmental justice workshop to train residents on neighborhood assets and concerns

The workshop and training is hosted by Environmental Transformation Movement of Flint, a group established last year. Flint resident Mona Munroe-Younis serves as executive director and one of seven board members.

Coming to downtown Flint’s Brush Park, Beats x BBQ will feature five local DJs performing throughout the day alongside some of Flint’s favorite eats as well as a car and bike show, dance performance, live painting by Charles Boike, skateboarding demonstration, and Flint fashion vendors.

The additional flight leaves Flint at 3:15 p.m. and arrives at O’Hare at 3:33 p.m. local time — a key time to make connections to other destinations out of the Midwest hub. American Airlines also will begin flying larger planes from Flint, which opens up the opportunity to fly first class on two of the flights.

A summer kickoff of the Civic Park Centennial Celebration is set for 2-6 p.m. May 14 at Joy Tabernacle Church. Current and former residents of Civic Park — as well as the community at large — are invited to join the festivities, which are part of the neighborhood’s year-long effort to honor and preserve its history.

Flintside partners with Civic Park neighborhood to launch On the Ground

Flintside will serve the Civic Park neighborhood with weekly storytelling, paid journalism fellowships and training for residents to tell their own stories in their own words, a community newsroom, photography and video.
