The 55th annual Flint Art Fair happens this weekend at the FIA

This weekend is filled with music, art, and food as The Friends of Modern Art holds its 55th annual Flint Art Fair at the Flint Institute of Arts.

FLINT, Michigan — The front lawn of the Flint Institute of Arts will transform into a fun zone this weekend for the Friends of Modern Art 55th Annual Flint Art Fair. On Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m to 6 p.m, and Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m to 5 p.m, patrons will be dazzled by music, art, food, numerous vendors, and activities like henna tattoos, painting demonstrations, and face paintings.

Live music will also be provided by Classic Fox 103.9 featuring Jeremy Fenech (on Saturday) and B-95 Country featuring April Rose (on Sunday).

Created in 1967 by The Friends of Modern Art, the Flint Art Fair is a two-day event to showcase original works from over 175 established and emerging artists from Michigan and beyond in various genres, including ceramics, glass, painting, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed media, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood.

These artists are juried by presenting their best works of art to a panel of judges through a lengthy application process with an opportunity to receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place award during the actual event. Interested parties can already apply for next year’s Flint Art Fair.

The fair itself is run by volunteers who assist with artist check-ins, provide hospitality relief to artists, admissions, the silent auction, and help clean up. It has grown to be a staple summer event over the years while donating all proceeds to the Flint Institute of Arts to continue to grow and curate exhibitions and programs.

Free parking will be available behind the FIA and other Flint Cultural Center institutions such as the Sloan Museum, The Whiting, and the Flint Youth Theater. A general admission fee of $5 is required, with children 12 and under allowed in for free.
